Birthday of Guru Gobind Singh

Guru Gobind Singh was born in 1666 in Patna, India. He became guru at the age of 9 after the death of his father, Guru Tegh Bahadur, who was executed for defending religious rights and freedoms. Guru Gobind Singh is considered the founder of the Khalsa (Sikh brotherhood), established in 1699. He introduced the panch payar, the five devotees who became the first members of the Khalsa and symbolized the ideals of justice, equality, and courage. He was also an eminent poet and author. Guru Gobind Singh promoted the ideals of justice, tolerance and unity. He emphasized the importance of personal experience in spiritual practice and taught his followers that they should protect the oppressed and fight injustice.
How is Guru Gobind Singh's Birthday Celebrated
Prayers and Teachings. Sikhs visit gudwaras (Sikh temples) where special prayers and teachings are held. Singing hymns and reciting sacred texts (Ji Bibeka) play an important role in the celebrations.
